Year 6 Transition 2023
Welcome
Welcome to our school, where we equip our students with the academic knowledge, life skills and exciting opportunities that they will need to prepare them for a successful future. We are delighted to see how many children have chosen us as their preferred secondary school.

Documentation and School Visits
Your child is no doubt looking forward with excitement to starting with us in September, and we are very much looking forward to meeting them. To ensure that your child feels comfortable about starting at our school, we have put together a useful booklet of information which may answer any questions you or your child may have ahead of your child’s transition to our school. We hope to meet your child very soon at their primary school and be able to distribute their transition pack, as well as other goodies from our school. Parents/carers will be informed of deadlines for the return of any forms that need completing in due course. This will enable us to update our details about your child and also help with assigning your child to their new tutor group and house.
We have previously worked with your child’s primary school and have offered a wide variety of exciting and fun-filled curriculum opportunities throughout the academic year, both at your child’s primary school and here at The William Allitt Academy, all of which have been taught by our experienced and friendly teaching staff. We have plans in place to continue our primary provision again this year Post Covid, working in close contact with your primary school.
Induction Days
We are very much looking forward to holding our Year 5 Taster Days and Year 6 Induction days in July 2023 on our school site, whereby a programme of transition activities will be delivered to ensure your child has a smooth and enjoyable start at The William Allitt Academy. Further information will be issued in due course.
Year 5 Taster Days (1 day visit over two days) will take place on 3rd and 4th July.
Year 6 Transition Days (2 day visit) will take place on 5th and 6th July.
Year 6 Parents Evening
We will be holding a parent information evening for Year 6 parents/carers on Thursday 6th July 4:30pm, to enable parents and carers to meet with their child’s form tutor, listen to a presentation from the Head Teacher and ask any questions they may have ahead of their child joining us. Further information will be issued in due course but emails can be sent at any point to transition@williamallittacademy.org.uk
Additional Information
In the meantime, you may wish to view our school website which gives details of some important aspects of our school including information on the curriculum which your child will study in Year 7. Additionally, you may wish to view our school’s social media pages (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) to view good news stories and keep up to date with events happening in school.
We will also be offering a fantastic week of summer activities as an additional opportunity for your child to get to know the school and further enjoy their transition experience. Further details will be released in the summer term.
Feedback from Year 7 students
We take pride in our secondary transition provision and value the feedback received from our students. Last year our new Year 7 students’ had a really positive start and have spoken positively about the school’s RISE programme and about the care and support they received, both in school and through remote education. Ultimately, this has resulted in a high proportion of students agreeing they would recommend The William Allitt Academy to their Primary School.
Here is a selection of comments made by some of our students about their experiences to date:
- “it’s a good school”
- “it’s easy to settle in”
- “it’s fun”
- “teachers are really nice and friendly; they help you if you’re stuck”
- “it’s welcoming”
- “we get to do activities such as PE, Woodwork, Textiles, Food Technology, Art, Science”
- “you get a free laptop to help with your learning”
- “we were able to choose a couple of friends that we knew so we could be in the same tutor group together”
Digital Learning
In a world where technology is evolving, we value the importance of the use of technology in enhancing your child’s learning experiences and ways of working. We are pleased to continuing our programme of providing personal laptops free of charge to all our students, to assist with their studies and to support home learning opportunities. Laptops will be allocated upon arrival in September.
